Canyoneering: Communication Breakdown

Recently learning how to rappel from my friend Kitt, I was invited to tag along on a couple recent canyoneering adventures in one of Oahu’s windward gulches. I’ve hiked near this area several times before, but was never able to cover so much ground because of the narrow canyon walls and tall waterfalls like many of the streams on this side of the island. Stay tuned for the full description and story why this route was aptly named “Communication Breakdown.”

As with any outdoor adventure here in the islands, please properly prepare yourself, hiking with others who are capable and who you can trust. Be sure to check the weather forecast for heavy rain or inclement alerts. Hiking in narrow gulches during high rainfall is highly discouraged, even though it may seem we are doing otherwise. Although potentially dangerous, our activities this day were perfectly within our comfort zone… however, please know when you are not within yours and when to turn back. If attempting, stay safe out there and have fun!
