EPIC SCOOTER ADVENTURE!!! July 21, 2012

The day started early at Hawaii Moped Rental on Lemon Street in Waikiki.

We chose this rental location because of their convenient online reservation system. We did the 24-hr rental + ~$25 insurance, since it’s required if returning after hours… The total came out to ~$56 with the Kamaaina discount.

After watching a short safety video and a quick road test (to verify we wouldn’t crash into a telephone pole as soon as we got on), we were off wreck havoc on the town…

Or maybe just head to Kapiolani Community College’s (KCC) farmer’s market.

After locking up our ‘peds, we aimed to stuff our face with all types of ono local-kine grindz (good local food).

Some picks which I thought were exemplary was this pesto pizza and these kale ahi poke chips.

Getting our fill, we were off to the next destination…

Kakaako Park.

We locked up our mopeds in one stall head out to “Point Panic,”

…which is a local body surfing area. There is also a great view of Magic Island, Waikiki and Diamond Head from there as well.

After taking in the scenery, we were headed off to our next location.

Armed with big smiles and cheesy aloha flower leis, it was only fitting that we visit Aloha Tower.

We actually didn’t go to the top of the tower, which many tourists do while visiting, however we were on a tight schedule…

We rallied up the entourage and headed down Ala Moana Blvd,

…through Ala Moana Beach Park and Magic Island,

…and through Waikiki,

…via Kalakaua Ave. Hawaii Moped Rental, enough free advertising or what??? lol.

The next quick pit stop was Diamond Head Lookout, which also provided a excellent opportunity to take a group picture of all of us.

Within a few minutes, we were off to another location…

Kahala Beach.

Even though most of us indulged quite a bit at the KCC farmer market, the hot and humid weather definitely required an ice-cold brews… and no other place to get some food and local beers in Hawaii Kai rather than Kona Brewing Company.

After having a few drinks, there was no other place we’d rather go than to Dog the Bounty Hunter’s house in Portlock. lol. Actually, I’m can’t really say that I’m a fan since I’ve never watched the show before and have no incentive to in the future. However, his driveway gate was quite entertaining (right). haha.

Also located in Portlock, is one of the well known swimming spots called, “China Walls.”

Many of us were able to jump off the 10-15 ft ledge/cliff.

A guy in a nearby party was doing some pretty epic backflips, so I decided to snap a sequence shot of him jumping.

Within 45 minutes or so and several jumps later, the crew was ready to move on to the next location located just past Hanauma Bay and adjacent Koko Crater.

An underground cave near the Lanai Lookout (also called submarine point by many locals/fishermen) provided another short adventure for our out-of-town guests.

The cave leads to the ocean along the Ka Iwi Shoreline, and a choppy cove to leisurely “hang out” at… definitely not swimming friendly.

Since it was late in the afternoon and the sun was setting, we decided to head back towards town.

After getting off of Kalanianaeole Hwy,

…we took the backroads through Kahala and Diamondhead to get back into Waikiki.

And what do you know, we made it to Waikiki (near Walls on at the end of Kapahulu Ave and the Zoo) just in time for the sunset.

An epic day filled with adventure and new friends.

Mahalo nui loa to Justin Ugalino for coordinating this “Epic Scooter Adventure,” I had a blast… I don’t know how, but I’m thinking next year’s one is going to be even better.
