Palolo Valley Korean Temple – November 6, 2011

After a great hike at Kaau Crater Rim, the Lost Trailblazers (Seth Eason, Jen Liu, Reanne Solomon and I) decided to check out the Mu Ryang Sa (Brokem Ridge) Korean Temple in the back of Palolo Valley.

The Buddhist temple is located on 2420 Halelaau Place, just off of Waiomao Road, and is open to the public daily.

As typical with many other Korean temples, the colors of the structures are much more vibrant when compared to other places of worship.

The architecture is also equally elaborate, i.e. the complex desing of this awning / roofline.

There are several places where you can burn incense on the property, which is thought to help purify the surroundings and honor deities or ancestors, amongst other purposes.

One of the most intricate and notable sculptures on the property are the enumerate, tiered meditating Buddhas (in first photo and above). The site is almost surreal and is a great place to meditate to clear your mind.

Though it would have been nice to enjoy the aesthetics of the temple longer, we were all hungry and it was definitely time to replenish our 1000s of calories burned on the trail earlier that day. To “The Counter” for some custom built burgers!!!
